In the middle of June the old school of the village of Miske was fenced by the Israeli Lands Administration, after a group of the villages refugees (Internaly displaced within israel), who live in the nearby city of Tira,have started renovating the destroyed buildings and using it as a cultural center. The people of miske together with Zochrot, have decided to overturn this fence, aimed at preventing the cultural activities, to an artistic instalation. Over 200 participants and few dozens of leading artist, who contributed art works, have joined the protest in the village's school house. Photos: Eitan Reich and Shahaf Haber Fadi Shbeyta, third generation to the uprooted family of Miske, has opened the event and the fence was covered with a cloth 50 meter long. The threatening sign of the Israeli Lands administration was replaced with a much friendlier sign reading: "Miske School house- the land belongs to the Miske uprooted people and the entrance is permitted to all with love. regardless of differences in nationality,religion, gender,race or sexual orientation" Ilana Hirshenberg has tied herself to the fence in defiance. Ori Kleiner has created a special image for the event with a meaningfull title . Zivi Geva has contributed a work from the series "Kafia", painted on a sugar sack. Elisheva Smith put on a photos project of her's about the seperation wall. The artist Roy Rosen is seen here hanging his work titled: "Only Sharon will bring Peace". Tamar Geter contributed a series of posters with slogens objecting the occupation. David Tartakover, winner of the "Israel award", has posted a remarkable series of posters. Yair Garbuz have signed two thought provoking prints. And the print of Michal Neeman, was comfortably hanged next to Handala (The famous Palestinian Icon drawn by Nagi el-Ali). Next to her Michal Heiman. Yael Oren-Zalait Efrat Natan has put on some of her works. Many of the participants, have commented artisticaly on the fence, including many young boys and girls. Makbula Nasser has contributed to the event a series of photos of the remains of destroyed Palestinian villages from 1948, taken over the last two years. Yael reshef was one of the participating artists. Some refugees and visitors have created a living sign saying : "Miske is Here!" from letters after an idea of Offer Kahana. Y. Mekiton -an inspector of the "green patrols" have barged in the event armed with a gun and cameras which he meant to put over the fence to prevent trasspasing. He demanded the people (the invaders absentees) to clear the grounds, but, the clear reaction by Mussa Shbeyta, who was born in Miske, have made it clear that we are not going away, EVER! Yizchak Laor has read a poem of his and a short story by Oz Shelach about a visit to Deir-Yassin. A Rap band from Kalansawa, sang about the opression of Israeli-Palestinains and about the coruption of Arab leaders, Samech Zakut has also preformed with two songs. Also participated: Michal Heiman, Arik Shapira (Another winner of the "Israel award") who played a version he recorded of "Sachki Sachki" in Arabic. Micki Kertzman and Boaz Arad showed a video of Erez checkpoint, Avi Mograbi showed a hard video work, titled "Detail", about the occupation in the West Bank, David Riv filmed it. Dana Levi presented a piece called "a hole in the wall", Aya Ben-Ron gave a kit of "first aid", Michal Shamir, Haim Dauel Luskyin with a video, Osnat Bar Or, Dganit Berst and Neomi Siman-Tov. more pics, from Ori Kleiner |
